Gotchi Guardians
Studio: NFT tower defense client (multi-platform)
Tower-defense game across PC, Mac and WebGL. Shipped custom outline shaders, dissolve FX, and platform-specific performance tuning.
The story
Gotchi Guardians is a tower-defense title targeting three very different runtime profiles — desktop PC, macOS, and WebGL in the browser. Each imposed its own ceiling, and the shader and VFX stack had to scale cleanly all the way down to browser-grade GPUs without sacrificing the stylised look on desktop.
Technical highlights
- Custom outline shader with platform-adaptive thickness and dynamic dissolve effect used on unit death and tower upgrades.
- Post-processing pass conditionally tuned per platform — full stack on desktop, streamlined subset on WebGL.
- Niagara-equivalent Shuriken-based VFX kept under tight overdraw and draw-call budgets.
- Profiling and optimisation passes across all three platforms to hit the delivery targets.
Outcome
Shipped on PC, Mac, and WebGL concurrently. The art team got a consistent visual identity across targets without fork-managing three sets of shader graphs.
